What a great weekend it was! On Friday, we went to a clinic in a rural village in Iganga. We performed interviews and device testing with mothers and midwifes. On Saturday, we took a break from work and went whitewater rafting on the Nile River! As it always goes in CBID, it was a “working raft” and involved some brainstorming on the river. Luckily we didn’t see any crocs, but we still had a few unexpected moments. The minute we stepped into our boats, there was torrential rain for the entire 5 hour trip (which turned out to be quite fun)! Good thing we all loaded up on sunscreen in preparation for the blaring sun that we’ve experienced all the other days in Uganda! At least the water was really warm and we did plenty of swimming (both intentionally and unintentionally). We went backwards down a 20 foot waterfall and somehow stayed afloat. But, the next rapid flipped our boat instantly and sent us all bobbing in the water through the next rapid. Thankfully, we then got some fresh pineapple on the boat and stopped for a BBQ lunch. While we thought the fun was over, our next adventure awaited as the bus drove us back to the parking lot and got very stuck in the mud. After many local people helped push it for a while, we ended up walking down the muddy road to a different bus and got to enjoy the scenery and play with the local children. Sunday was not as adventurous, but we were able to make adjustments to our testing setup and prepare to meet with more mothers this week.
Just a tad exciting! 😳
